About Us

Dr. Kelli Johnston — Experienced, compassionate care

Hi, I am Dr. Kelli E. Johnston, founder of Angel Oak Pediatrics. I was born and raised in Sterling Heights, Michigan, near Detroit. My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Michigan State University, followed by a dedicated pursuit of medicine at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Following medical school, I completed my residency in general pediatrics at Palmetto Health Richland hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. For 7 years, I practiced both outpatient and inpatient pediatrics at Upstate Pediatrics in Union, SC, before relocating to Charleston in 2015, where I practiced at Coastal Pediatric Associates for 8 years.

In 2024 I realized my dream of establishing my own practice, Angel Oak Pediatrics on Johns Island, now my cherished home. Committed to family-centered care and promoting holistic well-being, I am eager to collaborate with families to nurture children’s mental, physical, and emotional health.

Outside of my medical profession, I derive happiness from my three children, friends, and family. I engage in sports, outdoor activities, travel, and harbor a profound love for music and the arts. Frequently, I indulge in trivia, dancing, reading, and attending concerts.

family-centered

Family-Centered

I am proud to be an expert in pediatric medicine while recognizing that you are the expert on your child. I love to educate and inform parents in order to promote healthy development and wellness. Together we will share in informed decision making to ensure the best possible outcomes for your child and your family.

Holistic, focused on strong foundations

I strongly believe in the practice of evidenced-based medicine and utilize the full scope of interventions available, including medications, while supporting and advocating for the use of non-medication interventions whenever safe and appropriate. The foundations of good health are rooted in the basics — healthy nutrition, quality sleep, physical activity, nurturing mental engagement, supportive relationships, positive management of stressors. By focusing on these principles we can preserve health and when necessary, treat disease, to promote wellness in mind, body and spirit.
